Friending and Grouping
Most social media sites or apps connect you with other users by friending or following.
Within the larger group of your friends or followers, you can select certain contacts to be grouped together, creating a smaller network of friends/followers for that particular social media site or app.
Grouping helps you to control who views your personal information and what you post/share. It also helps you to restrict people who you feel uncomfortable sharing certain information with. For example, you may have open access to everything on your profile or page for close friends and immediate family, but restrict this for your online-only friends or followers.
Blocking
You can block or unfriend/unfollow other users who you find confronting or inappropriate to prevent them from interacting with you or seeing anything you post on your social networking profiles.
People you block can no longer:
- See things you post
- Tag you
- Invite you to events or groups
- Start a conversation with you
- Add you as a friend
Reporting
If someone is behaving in a way you find offensive or inappropriate, you can also report them to the social networking site. Most social networking sites have a reporting button for this purpose.
